Mexico!
For the faithful readers among you… I know… definitely time for an update!
For the ones who stay updated through newsletters and/or Facebooks Status Updates, this doesn’t come as a total surprise that I am writing you from Tijuana, Mexico! Don’t worry if you feel like you are losing track on where I am and what I am doing! To be honest, I am having moments that I feel like I am loosing track! Oh my… can’t believe I am in Mexico for real! What, why???
Youth with a Mission has their first ‘Children at Risk’-school. A school for people who want to learn more about working with children at risk. You can think of street children, child soldiers, child slavery, child prostitution, etc. The school is 3 months and will cover topics as ‘children’s need’, ‘what can we do’, ‘how do you do research’ , ’what are organizations doing’ and ‘how to set up a project/ministry’. After these 3 months of lecture phase, there will be a 6 months field assessment in Costa Rica or Mexico.
Now I have been here for about a month already, and will stay here for 2 more months, staffing this Children at Risk school, together with 3 others! The school has 14 students and it is very exciting to see how everyone is coming from all different backgrounds, and everyone is having different ideas and dreams about working with children at risk in the future! This is very exciting! I love being part of this, 3 months of new challenges and new things! At the same time I love walking alongside people in their process, and to support them in discovering where they fit in working with children at risk!
Yes… and this all takes place in Tijana, Mexico… a great place with so many contradictions. One side you hear all these stories of poverty and misery, before or having tried to cross the border. So much abuse and crime is happening here! At the other hand the people here are great! And it is beautiful here! Only 10 minutes away beach and palm trees, and a beautiful sunshine! A great place to enjoy the little moments between work, where we can enjoy and get some new energy!!!!
Around the base! The view from the trailer where we live now! Not bad, hey… our view from the trailer! Then the next pictures are on the way to the beach 10 minutes away from where we life. You can see the base from the beach, the high way, we need to cross… and the beach!!! Together with Bex!!! Yeah Bex is here!!! And we are having some great times together!
This is our team, incl their partners! Giezi (Amanda's partner), Amanda, who is the school leader, Ed and Kay who were here for the first 4 weeks and they left yesterday! Then it's me and Rachel, my room mate and staff member)… then Lee (Warners girlfriend) and then Warner… our other staff!
And then… the last picture….class photo!!!! That's us!!!
